Existentialism
InterestThe painting is dominated by a dramatic contrast. Intense blue and ultramarine tones dominate the large figures and symbolize melancholy, grief, depth as well as cold distance. “I hear, speak and see nothing.” The small, dynamic figures symbolize danger.
The blue figures represent the inner soul state of the viewer: the depression, the fear and the melancholy that observe the entire happening.
The small yellow figures represent the interior of the happening, the physical and social struggles one fights. The painting separates the large, overwhelming emotions from the active, combative life.
