InquireWhen I look at this painting, I see the densely packed group of walruses as I painted them – powerful animals that lean against each other and yet each possesses its own personality. I deliberately depicted them in vivid and sometimes unusual color tones: earthy brown and ocher nuances mix with reddish accents, violet shadings and delicate blue surfaces.
I particularly emphasized the typical tusks; they appear to me simultaneously imposing and slightly humorous, almost as if the animals were playing with their presence. The forms are slightly distorted, full of movement – a transition between reality and fantasy, exactly the zone that fascinates me most while painting.
With my color choice, I wanted to make the scene more lively and playful, far from a purely naturalistic view. The color-intensive environment carries for me a narrative mood: intense, emotional and full of small stories that emerge between the figures.
